 In
1950 a Dutch hotel manager convinced an Indian family to build
a hotel with a British name and decor. The family accepted
this advice, and to this day, Claridges has a loyal
following--many of them fussy, long-term visitors who
appreciate the hotel's old-fashioned charm. The lobby is
charming: one side has British Victorian decor; the other side
evokes an Indian courtyard.

The carpeted bedrooms are large and have Victorian furnishings
with either twin beds or a double bed. The most popular rooms,
slightly more expensive, are on the third floor and have
balconies that overlook the pool. The hotel is in the middle
of an exclusive residential district not far from Connaught
